The music community is celebrating a major milestone as TMF — the authentic continuation of the Maze legacy, signs an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with the Estate of Frankie Beverly. This historic agreement allows TMF to perform under the name Maze, preserving and continuing the unmistakable sound that has defined generations.

TMF is composed of long-time Maze members, including original percussionist and vocalist Roame Lowry (55 years), bassist Larry “Bear” Kimpel (20 years), pianist/keyboardist Vance Taylor (20 years), drummer Calvin Napper (13 years), keyboardist/organist Daniel Weatherspoon (3 years), guitarist/vocalist Joey Woolfalk, and world-renowned vocalist Chris Walker, who was personally encouraged by Frankie Beverly to embrace his unique vocal gift.

KTSU STUDIO RECORDING SESSION

In addition to carrying the torch for Maze, TMF has been writing its own history. Their debut album, TMF: The Music Forever, Vol. 1, was recorded at KTSU Studios in Houston, Texas. For TMF, choosing KTSU was more than a location — it was a connection to community, culture, and legacy. The state-of-the-art studios at Texas Southern University provided the backdrop for an album that blends new original music with the timeless groove of Maze.

The project has already earned TMF critical acclaim. Their single “Making Love to the Music” won the 2024 Indie Soul Award for Group/Duo of the Year, further solidifying their position as torchbearers of soulful excellence.

Concert-goers worldwide have embraced TMF, with sold-out performances across the U.S. and Europe, including standout shows at Indigo@TheO2 in London and Margate Soul Weekender. With the new licensing agreement in place, TMF is not only continuing Frankie Beverly’s iconic work but also building a new chapter rooted in authenticity, innovation, and community.

By recording their first album at KTSU Studios, TMF also carved a place in Houston’s cultural history, linking the rich tradition of HBCUs to the enduring spirit of Maze. Their journey is proof that legacies last forever, and the music keeps evolving, carrying the soul of yesterday into the sound of tomorrow.
