Spend Your Spring Sundays with KTSU at Jazzy Sundays in the Parks

todayMarch 20, 2024

Background

Spring has sprung in Houston, and the city is alive with the vibrant sounds of jazz! The immensely popular Jazzy Sundays in the Parks series is back in full swing, offering free concerts every Sunday to celebrate the rich tradition of Houston jazz and the incredible local musicians who keep it alive.

Three beloved Houston parks are joining forces to host these family-friendly events: Emancipation Park, Buffalo Bayou Park, and Discovery Green. The concerts kick off at 5 pm and last until 7 pm, providing the perfect opportunity for an afternoon or evening filled with music under the Texas sky.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the show. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and a pop-up market featuring local crafts, food, and wearables will be on site at each park, adding to the festive atmosphere.

This year’s Jazzy Sundays are made possible by a generous grant from the Kinder Foundation. The series is organized by Discovery Green Conservancy in collaboration with Emancipation Park Conservancy and Buffalo Bayou Partnership. KTSU is the official media sponsor, ensuring these “liberating experiences” are shared with the entire Houston community.

Legendary Artist Kicks Off Jazzy Sundays

The series kicked off on March 3rd at Emancipation Park with TK Soul, DJ Mr. Rogers and the HP Neighbors. On March 10th,  legendary artist Keith Frank continued to set the tone for the season with his infectious Zydeco tunes, getting the whole block dancing. The upcoming schedule promises an exciting line-up of local and regional jazz and jazz-influenced musicians, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
