Radio broadcasters from across Texas—including DFW, Houston, and the Rio Grande Valley—recently traveled to Washington, D.C., joining the Texas Association of Broadcasters to advocate for lawmakers to keep AM radio standard in all new vehicles. 

Local radio is an essential lifeline. During severe weather, emergency evacuations, and unexpected power outages, AM and FM broadcast signals remain the most reliable way to stay informed and safe—no subscription, internet data, or cell signal required. Yet, despite nearly 90% of prospective car buyers wanting free broadcast radio in their dashboards, several automakers are stripping AM capability from new models. 

Removing local radio access puts millions of drivers at risk. Congress must pass the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act to ensure local news, weather, emergency alerts, and vital community connections remain free and accessible on the road.
