KTSU is excited to bring our listeners closer to the music with our “Get to Know Your On-Air Hosts” series. Each month, we highlight one of our talented on-air hosts to give you a better sense of who they are beyond the airwaves.
For this month, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Chilly Bill, host Morning Vibes (Mon-Friday 6-9am and Saturday Mid Day Groove (10am-12pm).
Q: What inspired you to start your show?
Chilly Bill: The opportunity to host a Morning Show was asked of me by station management and was given to me in March 2019 right after the winter storm that rocked the city and surrounding areas of Houston. It was to shine the spotlight on KTSU and showcase the skills I acquired from being a part of 3 major market successful morning shows in Houston. It was my first opportunity to be the host and I was excited and grateful for the opportunity.
Q: What motivates you to continue hosting each week?
Chilly Bill: Since I have a 6-day schedule of Morning Vibes with Chilly Bill Smith, Monday thru Friday from 6am to 9am and the Midday Groove, Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. My main motivation is the love of music, interacting with my radio audience, mentoring, and sharing my knowledge with the future generation of broadcasters, and service to the community through my service at KTSU.
Q: What is something your audience would be surprised to learn about you?
Chilly Bill: It would probably be that all the energy that I bring to wake the city up each morning and jam your Saturdays is all me, I don’t drink and coffee or energy drinks. The high energy is all me (lol). And the outgoing nature that I have on air is a far from the shyness I had in school.
Q: Any closing thoughts/motivation for our readers and listeners?
Chilly Bill: Keep God first in everything you do. Don’t let people tell you that you can’t do what your purpose in life is for you to do, and don’t take NO for an answer. Not everyone can see the vision that God has purposed in your life. And remember, “When you feel yourself at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on tight because… ain’t nobody bad like you!!” Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you so much, Chilly Bill, for taking the time to share your powerful story with our audience!
