Cheers to 54 Years: KTSU 90.9 FM Celebrates a Historic Milestone!

Today marks a monumental day in Houston radio history as KTSU 90.9 FM “The Choice” officially celebrates its 54th birthday! For over five decades, we have been your trusted voice, your source for incredible music, and your ultimate community connection.

To honor this special day, the KTSU family—including our dedicated staff, your favorite on-air personalities, and our brilliant KTSU A.C.C.E.S.S. Program interns—gathered in the station conference room to sing “Happy Birthday” and reflect on what this historic institution means to us and the city of Houston.

Voices of KTSU: What 90.9 FM Means to Us

During our celebration, the room was filled with gratitude and powerful stories. When asked to describe the heartbeat of KTSU, our team used words that truly define our mission:

• A Safe Space for authentic expression and community dialogue.
• Culture & Preservation, keeping the rich history of jazz, blues, oldies, gospel, and hip-hop alive and thriving.
• Legacy & Growth, building on the foundations of the giants who came before us while paving the way for the future.
• Opportunity, providing a launchpad for the next generation of media professionals through our student programs.

“Since 1972, because of you.” This isn’t just a slogan—it is the absolute truth. We are immensely proud to uphold such a historic cornerstone of the radio industry, and we know we couldn’t do it without our incredible listeners.

A Record-Breaking Year!

This birthday hits a little sweeter because we have so many extra reasons to celebrate! Thanks to your undeniable support, this year marks the very first time KTSU has reached top 20 rankings among stations nationwide. This incredible milestone is proof that the love for community-driven radio is stronger than ever.
