Legendary Houston rapper and entrepreneur Bun B made a special stop at KTSU’s Impact Houston Live on March 7th to chat with hosts Donna Franklin and Chris Johnson. The interview buzzed with excitement as Bun B geared up for his history-making 2024 All-American Takeover concert at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo.

This marked Bun B’s third consecutive year headlining the rodeo’s music festival, and this year’s performance smashed attendance records. The stage came alive with the sounds of hip-hop royalty: Eve, E-40, Too $hort, Nelly, Rick Ross, Ying Yang Twins, That Mexican OT, and a surprise guest appearance by Drake.

As a longtime friend of KTSU, Bun B expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the unique rodeo experience: the only music festival that runs for 21 consecutive days. He spoke with deep appreciation for the impact the rodeo has on Houston’s cultural landscape.

Bun B also took a moment to reflect on the evolving nature of hip-hop: “People from all walks of life represent the culture now,” he shared. “Hip Hop was always meant for everyone to potentially be a part of this culture. It’s very inclusive.” He emphasized the genre’s shift from its Black music roots to a global phenomenon: “To do what I do at the rodeo shows you that Hip-Hop is not just for Black people.”

Beyond the music, Bun B also addressed the economic power of hip-hop, calling it “arguably one of our best cultural exports.” He highlighted the genre’s significance in Black history.

KTSU extends a huge thanks to Bun B for gracing our studios once again. His continued evolution as a Houston all-star and hip-hop legend is a source of immense pride for the city. Bun B’s All-American Takeover served as a powerful testament to the inclusivity and global reach of hip-hop culture.
