The Houston International Jazz Festival celebrated its 25th year anniversary hosted by Jazz Education Inc. Mayor Annise Parker attended the Mayor’s Scholarship Jazz Brunch on Sunday, August 2, 2015 held at the prestigious Wortham Center (Grand Foyer). Mayor Parker conducted the Summer Jazz Workshop All Star Orchestra at the annual Mayor’s Scholarship Jazz Brunch using the infamous baton once used by the conductor Arturo Toscanini to conduct the NBC Symphony Orchestra. Since the baton’s donation by The Strake Foundation, Houston’s own Marvin Zindler, and previous Mayors such as Brown, Lanier, and White have all conducted the Summer Jazz Workshop students using the baton.
